At WildHeart Riding School, riding instructors do more than teach. They guide. They care. They connect. Their day doesn’t start and end in the arena—it’s a full-circle experience that balances the needs of both horse and rider equally.
Our instructors start their day by checking in on each horse scheduled to work. They’re not feeding—they’re observing. Is the horse walking sound? Any signs of soreness? Do they seem stiff or tired? If a horse isn’t 100%, they don’t work that day—period.
We don’t believe in "pushing through." Our instructors work closely with management to ensure that any discomfort or stiffness is addressed quickly—whether it’s bodywork, a lighter ride, or simply a day off. That’s how you keep horses healthy for the long haul.
Every student at WildHeart is on their own unique journey. Our instructors know exactly where each rider left off last week and what they need today to make progress. There are no cookie-cutter lessons here. Whether it’s a 5-year-old working on posting trot or a teen preparing for their first show, the plan is personalized.
Progress isn’t just about skill—it’s about confidence, safety, and trust. And that only happens when the instructor is fully tuned into both the rider and the horse under them.
Before each lesson, instructors make sure the horses are fully prepped—mentally and physically. That might include stretching exercises, hand walking, or a quick warm-up ride to make sure the horse is soft and responsive.
If a horse isn’t quite right? The instructor switches mounts. Because here’s our golden rule: neither the horse nor the rider should struggle through a lesson just because it’s on the schedule.
While teaching, our instructors are watching everything. The rider’s hands, the horse’s ears, the balance, the breathing. They’re giving corrections and encouragement, but also tracking progress—sometimes from lesson to lesson, sometimes stride to stride.
They don’t just teach riding. They teach horsemanship. Students learn how to read body language, stay aware, and build a true partnership with their horse.
Once the rider dismounts, the job isn’t done. Instructors may walk the horse out, cold hose legs, or apply liniment if the ride was particularly intense. Notes are taken. Adjustments are made for the next lesson. Did the horse seem tired? Did the rider struggle with focus? What needs to change?
Instructors also communicate with parents. They’ll explain what was worked on, what went well, and what the next goal is. That’s part of building a long-term path toward growth.
Our instructors are trainers, mentors, advocates—and often, problem solvers. They collaborate with the rest of the WildHeart team to ensure each horse is happy in their job and each rider is growing in theirs.
And most importantly: they never prioritize one over the other. At WildHeart, horse and rider come first—together. It’s a partnership, and our instructors are there to protect and guide that bond every step of the way.
Curious about what makes WildHeart different? Come see it in action. Our instructors are happy to answer questions, guide you through our approach, and help you or your child start a riding journey that’s safe, exciting, and built on mutual respect.
